Denilson breaks national record

ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD swimmer Denilson Cyprianos smashed a 17-year-old national record in the 50m backstroke at the Mutare National Sprint Gala on Saturday.Penguins’ Denilson was the highlight of the tournament as he broke the 1997 record in the Under-12 category.
Matabeleland swimming board chairman Eddie Cyprianos praised the youngster for the outstanding display.

“The kid did well, it is a bonus that he managed to break the national record that has stood for so long, I’m proud of him,” said Cyprianos.
Christian Brothers College record holder in the 50m backstroke and butterfly category Andresious Cyprianos was also outstanding as he won all his events.

Andresious scored 40 points on the individual rankings to top the Under-17 and Over boys’ category.  Crusaders swimmer McAllister Courtney topped the Under-14 girls’ category with 34 points.

Crusaders and Penguins sent 14 swimmers each while SOS sent one. The Bulawayo clubs Crusaders and Penguins came out fourth and fifth respectively.

“That shows we are on the right track, I’m proud we did well, all the kids were outstanding” said Cyprianos.
Crusaders won six gold, seven silver and five bronze medals while Penguins walked away with seven gold, three silver and two bronze medals and SOS scooped two silver medals.
