THE training of various health care professionals is critical for the country to achieve universal access to healthcare.
This was said by Harare City Council Health Services Director, Dr Prosper Chonzi at a recent inaugural Zimbabwe Academy of Dental Nurses (ZADENU) graduation ceremony in Harare, where 21 dental surgeon assistants attained national diplomas.
“You carry the responsibility of ensuring that dental treatments are undertaken in an environment free of cross infection from instruments and from one patient to another, amongst many of your duties,” he said. “Your formal training will professionalise our dental surgery assisting or nursing standards in the country and make it catch up with regional and international trends.
Speaking at the same event, ZADENU principal, Dr Farayi Moyana, said the training programme was aimed at filling the skills gap of medical practitioners in the country.
“Our country needs more supply of skills to sustain and enhance development, especially in the health sector.”
“ZADENU has fully embraced the Governments call to citizens, professionals, professional associations and corporate citizens to help in improving manpower needs of the country,” he said.
Government representatives, medical practitioners from various fields and members of the corporate world also attended the event.
