CAPS UNITED retained their position at the apex of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table after defending champions FC Platinum were held to a goalless draw at Mandava yesterday.
It was FC Platimum’s first league match since Norman Mapeza’s departure and the Zvishavane side, who are now under the guidance of Lizwe Sweswe, blew a chance to regain pole position as they were restricted by a battling Mushowani Stars.
The draw pushed FC Platinum to 40 points, one behind Caps United, who beat Harare City 1-0 in a midweek fixture at Rufaro.
Mushowani could have actually won a penalty in the 28th minute when Sylon Chikwerenge was pulled down by Petros Mhari in a one on one situation, but the referee had none of it.
The hosts also had their penalty shout three minutes after the break when Lameck Nsiala was hacked down.
Mushowani refused to be intimidated by the defending champions and continued to probe, albeit without any result.
FC Platinum have now played 23 matches, same as log leaders Caps United.
