FOR weeks, there has been speculation over maverick midfielder Denver Mukamba’s silence and disappearance.
While the off-season transfer window was quite busy with coaches and player movements, Mukamba’s name was speculatively thrown in different conversations.
At some point he was believed to be on his way to reigning PSL champions Scottland after the club owner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya openly declared that he was interested in the player’s services.
However, when the team resumed their pre-season preparations without Mukamba, it became apparent that the move did not materialise.
While still off the radar, his silence left many uncertain of his future but Mukamba is suddenly back and ready to light up the league.
“I have been busy with other things but I am back now and ready to play.
“Football is life to me and that is the only thing I know best so people should not write me off as yet,” Mukamba said.
After resurfacing, Mukamba is reportedly already in talks with two Premiership clubs although he is yet to make a decision on which camp to join for the season.
He is being linked with a move to league newboys FC Hunters.
His name is also being linked with yet another return to Dynamos.
Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe is still recruiting players for the 2026 season, amid revelations that the club’s executive have indicated to the gaffer that he should reserve a slot for Mukamba.
This is despite the fact that Mukamba has missed the DeMbare pre-season training.
“I am promising my fans a blistering season. I have not been in the picture of late but I have personally ensured that I stay in shape for the coming season,” Mukamba said.
“Retirement is not in my plans yet, at least not for the near future because I feel that I still have a lot to offer.”
If he rejoins Dynamos, Mukamba will be reuniting with Mangombe, a coach he worked with in 2023 at the club.
This was before the duo met again the following year in Division One where both played a key role in helping Scottland win Premiership promotion.
“Off the pitch, I am now a farmer so sometimes I spend my time concentrating on the project,” Mukamba said.
“Pre-season is about to be over so I have to make a decision quickly, so that I can join the team and start training with others.
“I know a lot was said when I left Dynamos at the end of last season; I cannot control what people say . . . I am here to remind them that Denver is still here.”
Mukamba went AWOL ahead of DeMbare’s Chibuku Super Cup final tie against Triangle at Gibbo.
He had rejoined the Harare giants during the mid-season transfer window under Kelvin Kaindu, who had also joined the club at that time.
The Zambian gaffer took a gamble when he made the decision to bring Mukamba on board and for months, it paid off.
Mukamba would play a huge role in rescuing the team from relegation.
His influence was also felt when he led Dynamos to the Chibuku Super Cup only to miss out on the final.
However, prior to going AWOL, Mukamba had been issued with two warnings by the club, leaving his life at the club hanging by the thread before blowing his final chance during the cup competition preparations.
Since then, the 2012 Soccer Star of the Year has been silent.
