‘Denver will always be loved’

DENVER Mukamba’s brother, Clive Kawinga, says he is not surprised by Dynamos fans’ gesture to defy the call to stop showering the midfielder with money.

Denver and Kawinga were raised by the woman, who is best known as Gogo Kawinga (85), in Highfield.

Some of the leaders of one of the club’s fan clubs ordered their counterparts to stop showering players with money claiming it was dividing the camp.

But, this call was defied by some fans who waited for Denver at the exit gate to hand him money after the goalless draw against Triangle United.

Denver did not feature in the match.

Kawinga was a witness on Sunday as fans once again showered Denver with cash.

Kawinga told H-Metro this has been Denver’s way of life.

He said he doesn’t remember a day when Denver was involved in a street fight as a child up to now insisting that he has never had enemies.

The former Dynamos and CAPS United midfielder said he used to get punished for his brother’s shenanigans because their granny felt he was too decent to commit crime.

“I’m not surprised with the love which he (Denver) is getting from the fans because it has been like that since we were kids, he used to get all the favours everywhere,” said Kawinga.

“Our grandmother was very strict and I can barely count the times when I was punished for the crimes which he had committed because everyone used to say he is just too nice to make errors.

“It used to hurt me a lot as a kid and I think those who are pushing for fans to stop giving players money, after the game, are going to endure exactly what I went through in trying to convince Gogo that Denver was not always the person they thought he was.”

He added.

“He was just born differently and he is easy to love and it’s not normal for fans to give you money without kicking a ball at the expense of those who played 90 minutes.

“I wish him a better season and he has been a changed man ever since he joined Dynamos at the start of the season.

“He is feeling at home and I’m happy that the fans are showing him love and that’s the environment which suits him best.”
