Cabinet has approved Zimbabwe’s fourth Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The review report will be presented at the 2027 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
The request for Zimbabwe to embark on the review was presented to Cabinet by Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo.
“In fulfilment of Zimbabwe’s international multi-lateral obligations, Cabinet considered and approved the request for the country to undertake its fourth Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the 2027 United Nations High-Level Political Forum,” reads the post Cabinet media briefing presented today.
Zimbabwe will use the review to assess progress made in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which form part of the global 2030 Agenda.
The 2030 Agenda comprises 17 SDGs aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the planet and promoting inclusive and sustainable prosperity by 2030.
Cabinet said the review process will also provide an opportunity for the country to identify challenges and emerging priorities, share lessons learnt and strengthen policy implementation.
“Regular and inclusive Voluntary National Reviews assess progress in implementing the SDGs, identifying challenges and emerging priorities, sharing lessons learnt and strengthening policy implementation,” reads the statement.
“In the spirit of the whole-of-society approach, all citizens are called upon to accord the Voluntary National Review process priority as the country’s principal national reporting mechanism on implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
