LOCAL Government and Public Works Deputy Minister, Marian Chombo, has donated a wheelchair to a Zvimba woman, who lost both legs in an accident.
Gogo Joice Nyahuni (65), of Witchens Farm, lost her legs in an accident, on her way from a church conference, in April.
She was a passenger in a pirate Honda Fit, which was involved in a head-on collision, in which one person died on the spot.
Gogo Nyahuni could not hide her excitement, after receiving the wheelchair.
“I want to thank the Deputy Minister from the bottom of my heart.
“I am very grateful and touched by your kind gesture.
“May the Almighty God continue to bless you,” she said with tears in her eyes.
Deputy Minister Chombo urged motorists to value life and exercise caution, when ferrying passengers.
She also appealed to members of the public to use certified public transport.
“I want to urge motorists to take care when driving and to ensure that we do not lose precious lives in accidents that can induce disabilities and affect families and communities,” she said.
She also urged churches to pray and preach the gospel of love and peace.
The Deputy Minister, who has been championing an anti-drug awareness campaign in her constituency, urged the church to join in the fight against the vice.
She said the church must counsel young people, who are being swept away by the strong tide of substance abuse.
