THE Deputy Mayor of Gwanda, Councillor Albert Ndlovu, has expressed gratitude to the town residents for their support contribution towards this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.Speaking during the distribution of various goods sourced for this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund in the Gwanda council chambers on Friday, Clr Ndlovu said they were happy with the high participation of the residents towards the success of the annual event.

“We would like to express profound gratitude to the town councillors, business community, organisations, residents and all those who made this event a great success. This has shown the love we have for each other as Gwanda residents. We have shown that we care for the disadvantaged people around us.

“We started preparing for this event late but we are impressed with the response we got. We had set a target of $5,000 but we have managed to raise $3,000. Our aim is that next year we start our preparations as early as January so that we do greater things than what we did this year.

“We exhausted all the funds in the purchase of the groceries and we have 135 needy members of the community that benefited this year,” he said.

The needy members of the Gwanda community such as orphans and the aged received groceries that included mealie meal, cooking oil, flour, salt, soap and drinks. They were also given some clothing.

The beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the donations they received.
“We thank God that we have loving people around us who remember that there are disadvantaged people like us who need to be cared for. May God bless all those who have managed to put smiles on our  faces.

“These days it’s not easy to get something just for free,” said Khulu Major Nyathi from Jahunda Township.
The beneficiaries said they were  now assured of a lively Christmas.

“I really didn’t know what I was going to do with my orphans at home, we thought our Christmas would be gloomy but now am happy that I have groceries better than those we were given last year,” said Gogo Manasi Dube from Jahunda.
