AT just 26, Shalom Tivatyi is smiling her way into history after landing a life-changing interior design contract with Imbayedu Art Collective, a group famed for blending African tradition with modern style.
The self-taught designer from New Bluffhill, Harare, said the deal has boosted her career and strengthened her belief that passion and discipline can open doors beyond imagination.
“I’m honestly so happy about this opportunity. It’s not just about the payment, though of course, that helps! They gave me tools, proper timelines, and even the freedom to contribute outside my comfort zone. That really made me feel valued,” she said with a wide grin.

Shalom’s role goes beyond decorating spaces. She’s also been working closely with the design and tech team to ensure her creations shine online through the collective’s website.
Single and without children, she says this is just the start of a bigger journey.
“My dream is to keep freelancing on exciting projects like this. I want to grow my skills in construction, learn project management, and keep pushing myself. Each step like this makes me believe my future in design is possible.”
For Imbayedu Art Collective, whose name means Our Home in Shona, the partnership is about more than just business.
“Shalom is not only talented; she’s exceptionally reliable,” said O’Neal Tanaka Maisiri, the group’s Creative Director and Chief Curator.
“Her work ethic, timeliness, and creativity under limitation make her stand out. She brings identity, sustainability, and cultural resonance into every project. With her, interiors become canvases of culture, with every wall telling Zimbabwe’s story.”
Shalom’s journey proves that with grit, vision, and a splash of faith, even the smallest dream can grow into something monumental.
