‘Desist from social media attacks on leadership’

ZANU PF members must maintain the highest levels of discipline and refrain from using social media to denigrate the party’s leadership.

This was said by the ruling party’s National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, who was speaking at a provincial inter-district meeting in Mbire, Mashonaland Central province, yesterday.

Cde Machacha reaffirmed the party’s commitment to implementing resolution number one from last year’s National People’s Conference, which seeks a two-year extension of President Mnangagwa’s term to allow him to fulfil the Vision 2030 agenda.

“Coming on to resolution number one, I want you all to know that there is no reverse gear on this issue,” he said.

“As a party, we are bound by whatever we agree on. Let it be clear that this resolution does not seek a third term but an extension of the current term.”

Parliament, he said, will soon debate the resolution, while the party’s legal team is already handling the matter.

He also dismissed misinformation circulating on social media, urging members to ignore misleading narratives.

“So, stop listening to whatever is being peddled on social media, misinforming members on the issue.”

Cde Machacha also warned against online attacks against party leaders. He stated that the Politburo has recommended strict measures against those undermining the party.

“We are not going to fold our hands whilst we have unruly members undermining and cursing our leadership in WhatsApp groups.

“Individuals like Munyaradzi Shoko and Nyokayemabhunu, who are remnants of the G40 faction, are openly calling for the unseating of an elected President.

“That is treason, a crime punishable by death,” he said.

Speaking during the same meeting, ZANU PF Mashonaland Central province vice chairperson Cde Christopher Magomo also issued a stern warning against divisive elements, stressing that the province would not tolerate misconduct.

“As a province, we will invoke disciplinary measures against any member who abuses the party leadership, especially on social media,” he said.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Tino Machakaire has urged party youths to focus on constructive engagement rather than using social media to sow division.

Addressing a ZANU PF provincial inter-district meeting in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West, yesterday, Cde Machakaire, who is also the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, underscored the critical role of young people in driving Zimbabwe’s progress.

“Engaging in divisive actions only creates false narratives that weaken the party.

“The party cannot be swayed by social media.”

President Mnangagwa, he said, was set to issue 516 offer letters for 10-hectare plots to youths in the province next week, a move aimed at unlocking financial opportunities and enhancing land security.

The initiative, he said, seeks to empower youths by integrating them into the agriculture sector, positioning them as key players in national development and economic transformation.

“Youths have always been key drivers of development and are essential to Zimbabwe’s achievement of Vision 2030,” he said.

“These offer letters serve as a testament to the potential today’s youths have in driving the country’s economy.”

Speaking at the same event, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mariam Chombo said the offer letters initiative’s broader impact on job creation and economic growth within the province was immense.

“This initiative will create more jobs and provide economic opportunities for our communities,” she said.

President Mnangagwa is set to officially present the offer letters on March 20.
