THE phased 100-day developmental strategy has helped realise tangible achievements across all Government institutions in Mashonaland Central, Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Monica Mavhunga has said.

She said the province has since received $29,4 million from Treasury and projects initiated are already transforming the lives of people in marginalised areas.

The provincial development thrust, which is guided by Vision 2030 and the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP) saw Mazowe and Mbire rural district councils successfully holding a stakeholder consultative meeting, devolution conference, Smart Agriculture conference and investment conferences.

In an interview on the major achievements in the province in Bindura on Tuesday, Minister Mavhunga said the devolution of power to provinces had helped to improve the ease of doing business for the public.

“The provincial development thrust is guided by Vision 2030 and the Transitional Stabilisation Programme.

“Further, the phased 100-day developmental strategy has helped realise tangible achievements across all sector ministries and departments,” she said.

“President Mnangagwa challenged us as provinces to grow our economies. In this regard, Mashonaland Central held a stakeholder conference, a devolution conference and Smart Agriculture conference to exploit existing opportunities and open up to interested investors.

“The province also came up with a draft provincial industrial development strategy 2020-2023 to inject productivity in our industries across all sectors such as agro-processing and mineral beneficiation by small, medium and large enterprises.

“Our target is to resurface our major highways – Harare-Kanyemba and Harare-Mukumbura – and tremendous work is in progress on these roads. We will also continue to improve the total road network in communal and urban centres to ensure that they are trafficable,” she said.

In terms of provision of clean water, Minister Mavhunga said the province had targeted drilling more than 50 boreholes.

She recently commissioned the Nyatsato Piped Water Scheme in Rushinga, which will serve in excess of 2 000 people.

On infrastructure development thrust, numerous projects were recorded such as the completion of Pembi Bridge in Mvurwi, tarring of a total of 56,5km on several roads among them Mahuwe-Kanyemba, Bindura-Mt Darwin, Bindura-Matepatepa Road, completion of Bindura-Shamva Road, St Albert’s-Dotito and Dotito-Mukumbura.

Minister Mavhunga said several dam construction projects received budgetary support and work was in progress, such as Semwa Dam in Rushinga, Bindura Dam in Bindura, Silverstrom Dam in Muzarabani and Dande Dam in Mbire.

She said as a province, the focus was on the development of Kanyemba into a modern tourist attraction since it was granted national project status and designated as a Special Economic Zone.

Minister Mavhunga said an integrated development plan was in progress with several projects underway such as the pontoon-landing bay already completed and airstrip construction for Kanyemba and Chapoto, upgrading of Chapoto Clinic into a rural hospital, connectivity and provision of power.
