Murehwa Rural District Council used devolution funds towards acquiring utility vehicles, a significant milestone aimed at achieving world-class service delivery for ratepayers, and has been commended by Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe.
Minister Garwe attended the commissioning of the council’s utility vehicles, which include a refuse compactor, back-hoe loader and water bowser as well as a vibratory roller. Council also bought four Nissan NP200 and two Nissan Navara vehicles as well as 39 motorbikes using both devolution and council funds.
Minister Garwe said the equipment will go a long way in improving service delivery.
“It is as a result of this foresight and vision by Murehwa Rural District Council to recapitalise that will help us catalyse our efforts towards the attainment of Vision 2030 and Agenda 2063 for Africa. Coming back to the national level, and in the wider developmental context, equipment recapitalisation is a key driver in the achievement of the National Development Strategy 1.
“Deployment of the equipment will significantly impact on the level of service delivery by council,” he said.
Minister Garwe said the motorbikes will make it easy for councillors to execute their duties in their wards.
“Today as I hand over the 39 motorbikes to councillors, this will enhance their mobility in their wards, resulting in the effective and efficient co-ordination of developmental activities throughout the 30 administrative wards of Murehwa.
“I am sure you all agree with me that Macheke Rural Service Centre is rapidly growing in terms of population and infrastructure, therefore, the availability of the refuse compactor will go a long way in effective solid waste removal. The acquired road-making equipment is expected to positively improve the state of the roads in the district before the onset of the coming rainy season.
“As we embark on this ambitious journey of promoting service delivery and economic development, let us draw inspiration from the fact that together we can achieve the extraordinary. With determination, innovation and shared commitment to a better future, let us work towards the success of our country Zimbabwe.”
In his remarks, Murehwa RDC Chairperson Alderman Amos Gutu said besides acquiring utility vehicles and motorbikes, the council was working round the clock to implement a wide array of development using devolution funds.
“The projects span from education, service delivery with classroom blocks, science laboratories and ancillary infrastructure under construction in wards 4,5,8, 16, 19, 25 and 28. Health service delivery has seen construction of clinics in wards 4, 12, 13 and 14.”
Ald Gutu thanked Government for its support.
