LOCAL authorities were this year allocated $19,8 billion under devolution funds to fund development projects in their respective areas as the Government drives towards fostering inclusive development.
Local Government and Public Works Minister, July Moyo, said this during the recent indigenisation and economic empowerment policy outreach in the Midlands Province where he said the devolution agenda was there to transform all parts of the country.
“All the 92 local authorities in the country are going to spend $19,8 billion on development projects this year. Through devolution we are no longer looking up to Harare to grow our economy,” he said.
Minister Moyo said devolution funds were transforming livelihoods in line with the National Development Strategy (NDS1 2021-2025) blue-print.
“That is why the President has been saying no one and no community should be left behind,” he said. Speaking at the same occasion, Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Senator Larry Mavima, said Midlands Province was open to business.
“We have a lot of investment opportunities in mining, agriculture, tourism and small business among others. My office remains open for investors,” he said.
The meeting was organised by the Business Economic Empowerment Forum (BEEF) in conjunction with Affirmative Action Group (AAG) and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC).
