Efficient use of funds disbursed to provinces under the devolution programme, coupled with implementation of strategic development plans, will expedite the revitalisation of the country’s economy and attainment of Vision 2030, Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan province Mr Tafadzwa Muguti has said.
He was speaking during the inaugural Harare Metropolitan Province Excellence Awards on Friday.
Running under the theme“Inspire, Empower, Celebrate”, the awards sought to recognise outstanding individuals, corporates and organisations that helped promote social inclusion and economic development within the province.
Mr Muguti said the attainment of Vision 2030 was premised on the devolution and decentralisation programme.
“Provinces, districts and communities are also expected to implement development strategies which are informed by their respective resource endowments and competitive advantages,” he said.
“This should lead to greater innovation, modernisation, industrialisation and increased investment across the province and competition among provinces to attract investment.”
The awards, said Mr Muguti, are aimed at bringing a competitive spirit among stakeholders as they work towards the achievement of national aspirations.
“According to the latest ZIMSTAT report, Harare province is contributing the majority of the national GDP among all 10 provinces,” he said.
“I would like to commend our esteemed stakeholders for working tirelessly towards this.
“I would like to urge you to continue working together, as your work provides the necessary building blocks, which are key towards the realisation of our aspirations under our national vision.”
