ZANU-PF will continue to dominate the local political landscape as a result of the Government’s thrust to develop communities through proper distribution of devolution funds, a Politburo member has said.
Cde Alice Dube said this during a Heroes Day sports tournament in Chefunye, Tsholotsho South. She said unprecedented development was taking place, even in previously marginalised areas, a clear testimony that devolution funds are trickling down to rural communities.
That, Cde Dube said, was proof that the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa is keen to see development projects spreading to all corners of the country. Sponsored by South African based businessman Mr Judas Nkomo, the event was aimed at celebrating the immense contributions of the men and women that fought to liberate the country from colonial rule.
‘Today we celebrate Heroes and the Defence Forces holidays and I’m happy to say that the ruling party is working hard to make sure that every village in the country enjoys our freedom through sustainable development.
‘Devolution funds are benefiting even the most remote areas as the Government wants to make sure that no one and no place is left behind,’ said Cde Dube. She said she has no doubt that the ruling party will retain Tsholotsho South constituency in next year’s harmonised elections.
‘Tsholotsho South constituency will remain under Zanu PF come 2023, there is no doubt about that. In a short space of time, the Government under President ED Mnangagwa has managed to build the Lake Gwayi – Shangani, the Lupane Provincial hospital just to name a few projects and the people are happy to see such things,’ she said.
Cde Dube applauded Mr Nkomo for organising the sports tournament as a way of giving back to the community.’ Tsholotsho youths, just like other young people in Zimbabwe are struggling with a drug and alcohol abuse problem and the only way to stop that scourge is to give the youth something to do with their lives.’
Sports is one way of keeping them off the streets and it’s good to see young people like Judas Nkomo organising such tournaments,’ she added. The two-day event will be an annual tournament, according to Mr Nkomo. — @RaymondJaravaza
