CHESS expert, Prince Dhabeta is this year’s chess champion after outclassing 10 amateur and professional chess players from across the country who attended an exhilarating chess tourney held recently at Mutare Poly.

Dhabeta received a gold medal and a trophy, while Tinashe Motsi and Trymore Nyevhe won silver and bronze medals respectively. Young Amos Mhlanga won a trophy after coming up tops in the best upcoming young chess player. The tightly contested competition was described by the organisers as one of the best ever.

The organisers held a similar tournament in Chipinge two months, but it was not as successful as the one held in Mutare. One of the organisers, Russel Nyamayaro, thanked all those who participated and pledged to host a bigger and better tourney next year.

“It was a successful event that was very competitive and we hope to host such similar contest in near future,” he said.
