MUTARE’S one and only radio station – Diamond FM has promised to reach out all corners of Mutare as they intensify the “Radio without Boundaries bringing radio closer to you” concept.

The concept which has taken Mutare by storm has seen the radio station conducting outdoor broadcast in entertainment centres as well as hosting family fun days in Mutare’s Central Business District.

Last Saturday, the station conducted an Outside Broadcast at Chancellor Primary School where they hosted a family fun day for the better part of the day before proceeding to fast emerging Mutare leisure centre, Manicaland Motoring Club for a gig.

Both shows were well attended and managed to bring the Diamond FM presenters, local artistes and the public together.

Artistes who performed during the events were celebrated urban groover, Sanii Makhalima, Juicer Mpostori, Hip-Hop crooners, Kritic Igwee, Flexxo, D-boi and Spaxx and Mzimba.

Jubilant revellers managed to have some soft moments with the presenters who included Peter “Uncle P” Madondo, Tinashe “Tnash” Zilole, Charlene Mataure, Washington Manhando, Christopher “Mutape” Siduna, Barbra “Teardrop” Vhengedza, Prudence “Prudy” Gwitirwa, Mercy Ngwebvu, Hardlife Zuweni and Dylan “Dealanaye” Sisimayi

The station has also managed to conduct OB at Murahwa Green Market where an avalanche of small and medium enterprises services such as metal work, carpentry, motor mechanics and tin smiting among other things are being done.

People who operate at the area managed to advertise their services at reduced rates. The popular place has been home to most of the local entrepreneurs since the 1980s to-date, housing over 500 entrepreneurs, both formal and informal.

The station also broadcasted live the Independence Day celebrations at Sakubva Stadium as well as the Castle Premier Soccer League match pitting Mutare City Rovers and Harare giants, Dynamos at the same stadium a fortnight ago.

Station manager, Leander “Leekay” Kandiero, said listeners need to have a more intimate relationship with their presenters.

“Since time immemorial, radio has been a mystery. The technical aspect has been a mystery. People need to know presenters’ actual faces, so we branded the concept: “Radio without boundaries – Bringing radio closer to you”, with our main objective being reaching out to our listeners and go outside the traditional four walls. We need to broadcast next to the listener. People need to be intimate with their presenters.

“We are happy with our listeners’ response so far. It has been encouraging. Scores of people came through several events we have conducted outside broadcast and we are happy. We will reach out all areas, particularly in high-density suburbs’ shopping centres and schools. Such events will accord our clients an opportunity to know their service provider and be able to interact. We intend to demystify radio and be closer to the people,” said Kandiero.

He added that the OB facility would also champion social and health issues where the station through its presenters would partner organisations in health and social uprightness and lead by example as an entity which has a social responsibility obligation.

The station will in the near future conduct outdoor broadcasting in areas outside Mutare such as Arda Transau and Rusape where there has been overwhelming demand from listeners to host shows in their areas.
