Top rhumba outfit Diamond Musica, who are still basking in the glory of their new album “Amai”, are set to record a video which will feature some snippets from their first mega gig after the launch this Thursday at ZimCafe Hotel.
According to lead singer Pitshou Lumiere, the video will feature some of their extraordinary performances.
“It’s coming out soon and the video will be nothing short of fireworks and quality including scenes from our upcoming show this Thursday which is our first gig since the launch,” he said.

All the eight tracks deal with social issues including love, relationships and social cohesion.
Produced and arranged by Shaka Zulu, the album features four Shona songs including a duet with Suluman Chimbetu while the other four were sung in KiSwahili.

Several tracks on the album were produced with the help of the Orchestra Dendera Kings’ lead guitarist Knowledge “The Crossbar” Nkoma, who performed as a guest artiste.

The band’s last album was released in 2005 and contained popular hits “Miniskirt”, “Dis is Good”, “Amaule” and “Sinamakosa Remix” among others.

Rhumba music took Zimbabwe by storm during the 1990s with a number of artistes from the DRC coming to perform in Harare. Kanda Bongo Man, Pepe Kalle, Papa Wemba, General Defao, Extra Musica, Werrason and Koffi Olomide were some of the big names in rhumba that performed in Harare. There were few other Zimbabwean rhumba groups that emerged including Bana De Sas, College Musica, Lubumbashi Stars and BV Labien.

So when Diamond Musica came to Zimbabwe they were no strangers as there was already a huge following of rhumba music.
However, with the passage of time and change in music tastes, the genre last appeal due to other several factors including the rise of genres such as South African kwaito/house, Nigerian pop as well as dancehall.

Already, Diamond Musica face an uphill task to try and lure some of their fans who had shifted from rhumba to kwaito or dancehall.
