Diamond piece lands man in trouble

Manicaland Correspondent
A MARANGE man has been arraigned before the courts on allegations of illegally dealing in diamonds.
The suspect, Thanks Mujaji (32), was last week found in possession of a piece of diamond in Chiadzwa.

Mujaji appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe facing charges of contravening Section 3(1) as read with Section 3(2) of the Precious Stones Act Chapter 21:06.
He was remanded to July 17 on $100 bail.

The prosecutor Miss Perseverance Chisukuto told the court that on June 20, 2019 at around noon, Detective Elliot Mucharuona received information that Mujaji was dealing in diamonds.

Detective Mucharuona teamed up with three workmates — Dliwe Mpofu, Isheanesu Mangume and Collen Chidhakwa — and trapped him.

Miss Chisukuto said the quartet approached Mujaji at Tenda Business Centre in Chiadzwa where he allegedly tendered one piece of diamond to Detective Mucharuona, who had disguised as a buyer. Mujaji wanted to sell the piece of diamond for US$30.
Two other detectives arrested Mujaji after he failed to produce a permit to deal in or possess the diamonds.
