TANZANIAN superstar Diamond Platnumz got a rapturous reception on Friday afternoon at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport ahead of his performance on Saturday at The Odyssey in Kadoma.
The singer arrived with his entire band for this year’s Kadoma Music Festival beginning on Friday evening.
Traditional dance troupe, Hwamanda, welcomed the entertainer in a traditional way as they danced and ululated for his arrival.
He was greeted by drummers and energetic traditional dancers who are now experienced in meeting international and regional guests.
Diamond returned the favour as he gifted the group with American dollars at the airport. Fans jostled to catch a glimpse of the singer who was reunited with rapper King 98.
He is set to share the stage with superstars Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah and Winky D. Festival debutants Chibadura Brothers – sons of the late James Chibadura – have been given a chance to shine at this musical extravaganza.
Chimurenga heir apparent Kurai Makore returns to the festival after winning the auditions three years ago. Rap sensation Saintfloew and Gemma Griffiths are also part of the bill.
All the yes would be on Diamond Platnumz who commands a huge following in Zimbabwe. He will be performing in Zimbabwe for the second after his maiden of the country in 2016.
Diamond Platnumz’s romance with Zimbabwean fans was made stronger at the “Watora Mari Concert” held in 2016 at HICC alongside Jah Prayzah.
During Friday’s conference, he assured fans a show of a lifetime. He also came along with his two children.
“I make sure I travel with them when they are on holiday,” he said.
He also promised a polished show in Kadoma.
“I am promising a good show, I came with my full band for this event,” he told reporters during a press conference.
