Diary of Mr30

FRIDAY
Ah, I totally forgot that the school holidays were upon us Diary. I was so surprised when my wife ran out of the house screaming that the kids are here. I know she mentioned it the other day that she had organised for another parent to bring the kids home, but I forgot. Oh well, it is nice to see them again.

SATURDAY
My wife was panicking today about what to do with the kids since money is short. She said it might be best to get them off to a relative. The problem is every holiday our relatives send their kids to us to stay.
Unless of course we do what we said we would do and that is to send them to kumusha. Actually Diary that is a good idea, let me suggest to her that they go to kumusha. It is easier for me to send them there with some groceries, than it is to send them to some relative in town where they will want movie and shopping money etc.

SUNDAY
Four more days before we go to the retreat, I can’t wait and neither can the other men. Especially now when the kids are all back from school. We need to get a breath of fresh air before we are fathers again (well those of us who have kids in boarding school).

MONDAY
We attended another funeral today. This time a worker from the next farm, we knew him because he was our ex-worker years ago. He moved to the next farm when I took over the running of my father’s farm. He died of an accident on his way to Harare. How sad. This is the third funeral we have had to attend this month of August so far. This is now getting my wife worried about our trip as men.
I understand how she feels, but we have the covering of the elders and God Almighty, so she need not worry.

TUESDAY
And another funeral sho! My wife refused to go to this one.
I understand her feeling, but I am a community leader, I need to show face. Unfortunately every time I show face people expect money ah yah!

WEDNESDAY
My wife spoke to me about taking the kids to kumusha which is exactly what I was thinking. However, it is too late for me now to take them, so I told her next week when I return would be better. She seemed so much happier after that. We decided not to tell the kids for now because we know they will not appreciate it.
She said she will not come with us as she needs to sort out a few things, but she agreed to buy the groceries for my grandparents, so that works well.

THURSDAY
I am off to the retreat with the men and it is wonderful.
I tell you Diary it is amazing how men behave when there are no women around – just like boys kikiki. This retreat has started off wonderfully already.
