MANICALAND Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (MABBA) chairman, Farai ‘Talawa’ Kasecha, believes contestants from Mutare will make their presence felt in this year’s edition of the Zim Classics to be held in Harare tomorrow (Saturday). Leading Mutare bodybuilder, Brighton Mazikana, his understudy, Blessing Saunyama, Levine Sengurayi, Olive Manyaradze and Steven Pariano are expected to stand in for Manicaland when the competition gets underway at Long Chen Plaza in the capital.
Mazikana continued with his dominance in Mutare bodybuilding competitions when he romped to victory in the inaugural Mutare Classics contest held at Dangamvura Beit Hall two months ago.
The Body Focus Gym bodybuilder was crowned Mutare Classics champion after outsmarting fellow Body Focus Gym bodybuilder, Saunyama who settled for second position.
The Mutare Classics was a dress rehearsal for bodybuilders in the eastern border city ahead of the Zim Classics, while the Zim Classics will serve to determine who will make it in the team that will represent the country in Mr Universe to be held in Italy later this year.
“We are confident that we will have participants from this side who will make their impact felt in the Zim Classics competition. We have quite a number of bodybuilders that we are expecting to compete. The likes of Brighton Mazikana, Blessing Saunyama, Levine Sengurayi, Olive Manyaradze and Steven Pariano are some of the competitors from Mutare we hope will give a good account of themselves in the contest,” he said.
Kasecha, whose MABBA is currently putting their house in order and has shown some semblance of orderliness, has since marked October 3 as the date for the annual Mr and Ms Manicaland bodybuilding competition.
“We will have the Mr and Ms Manicaland bodybuilding competition at Mutare Hall (formerly Queen’s Hall). We have decided to move the venue from Dangamvura Beit Hall in order to make it central and be able to attract a wide spectrum of our society.
“We will have our usual categories that include juniors and seniors for both males and females,” he said.
Kasecha added that his association had agreed with former Mr Zimbabwe, Tobias Madzime to be their patron.
“Followers of the sport of bodybuilding here in Mutare might also want to know that we have agreed with former Mr Zim, Tobias Madzime to be our patron. The decision was made in order for us to get guidance as well as benefit from the experience that the man has in the sport,” he said
