DID Soul Jah Love foretell his death?
The song “Ndichafa Rinhi,” which was released just days after his death, appears to suggest that.
“Mwari wangu, ndiroteseiwo zuva riye, zuva rekufakwangu so, so, so. Dai ndine mushonga wandakabata ndaizvigadzirisa zvisati zvashata. Nhasi uno yangova bata wabata,” the chanter sings.
Soul Jah Love was one of the greats of Zimdancehall who helped put his Mbare neighbourhood on the map, through his talent.
The Conquering Family boss died on February 16, 2021, at the age of 31.
On Sunday, the dancehall family maked four years after his death.
The gifted chanter succumbed to diabetes-related complications at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare, leaving a significant gap in the local entertainment industry.
News of his death sent shockwaves throughout the Zimdancehall universe.
Four years later, it’s fair to say that no other chanter has come close to filling the gap he left.
He remains an iconic figure, as much in death as he was in life.
There are claims that the man they called ‘Chibaba’ struggled with drug abuse.
Some claim in some ways, this abuse was linked to his depression.
Soul Jah Love lost his mother when he was five and his twin brother when he was fifteen.
The streets became home for the Zimdancehall king.
His tracks lit up the streets from around 2013 until he passed away in 2021.
All Zimbabwean artists and fans held him in great respect.
Even after his passing, he has continued to inspire artists like Madzimai Icandy and Madedido, to mention but just a few.
