Greetings beloved nation in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Revelations 5:10, “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth”. There are two dimensions that God has given us: (i) dimension of being a priest and (ii) dimension of being a king. So meaning as believers we are supposed to function in the office of a priest and of a king on an equal basis. The problem with most believers is that they are functioning as priests but are not ruling as kings. They don’t understand this truth. When they accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, they are satisfied.
The original purpose of God for man is not only to be saved, but to rule. The Bible tells us in Revelations 5:10 that we shall reign on earth, so meaning while we are still here on earth we are supposed to reign. Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour combines these two roles, and because we are created to be like him it means we are created in his image to reign as priests and kings here on earth.
Christ is our pattern of how to function in the priestly and kingly office. I want to look at these two dimensions that God has given us so that as believers we can reign on earth. But how do we reign? Our priestly position and function must not be separated from our kingly position and role. These two complement each other. (i)Dimension of being a priest. According to Hebrews 5:6 Jesus is the priest after the order of Melchizedek and he is the High priest of the house of God (Hebrews 10:21). As a priest Jesus Christ ministered to his father in prayer and worship daily and he also ministered to men as a priest. A priest must have an altar. An altar is a place of prayer and a place of sacrifice. An altar empowers you and speaks for you. One thing we should understand is that you cannot separate a priest from an altar. An altar has to be serviced whether it a Godly altar or a demonic altar. So as priests we are supposed to service our altars through prayer.
The Bible tells us in Leviticus 6:11 that, “The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out”. An altar is a place of sacrifice. People of the world offer sacrifices on their altars, so as believers we should also offer sacrifices on our altars; sacrifice of prayer, of worship and of giving. Our roles as priests is to worship God and to proclaim his praises according to 1 Peter 2:9 which says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, his own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light,” (ii)Dimension of being a king. It was God’s intention from the very beginning for man to share his dominion over the earth.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:26 that, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle over all the earth”. By being empowered over creation, we were made to be kings. But men sold that dominion by being disobedient. When Adam and Eve sinned they opened the door for sin and lost dominion. So meaning that when we sin we give authority to the devil. When Jesus Christ came, he was restoring the dominion we lost and also the kingship that we lost through disobedience.
In this world that we live in there are principalities that we have to rule over because the Bible says we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Jesus Christ as a king reigned over sickness, powers of darkness and over creation. So we too as believers are expected to reign in every sphere of life. It is through prayer and intercession that we exercise our authority we have in Christ. Kings command things, they do not beg, they exercise their authority. Kings carry a sceptre and the sceptre we should carry as believers is the Holy Ghost. As believers we are supposed to rule financially, spiritually, physically. When a king speaks, what he says comes to pass.
That is the word of a king. That is the authority that we have been given. The question is are we reigning as kings? When we talk of a king it speaks of territory, so meaning every king has a territory to rule. The function of a king is dominion over the earth, while the function of a priest is spiritual works such as prayer and worship to mention a few. So as believers if we do not understand this truth of being priests and kings who are supposed to reign on earth, we shall live lives of defeat. It is also important to function in both offices. Life does not end at just accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, but we are also to live in dominion and exercise the power of God over situations and forces of the devil. When we as believers understand our position, we can easily dominate Satan and his agencies. Once again I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour, and you shall be saved.
