TUSKERS have had a good start to their 2022/23 Logan Cup first-class cricket encounter against Eagles at Harare Sports Club as they go into day three this morning with their opponents trailing by 100 runs.
Batting first, Walter Chawaguta’s men scored 338 all out in 101.4 overs courtesy of two half centuries from captain Ainsley Ndlovu and Awad Naqvi and at the end of day two, Eagles were on 238-5 in 71 overs.
Ndlovu scored his fourth first class half century after he finished on 84 runs not out from 119 deliveries while Naqvi fell for a 128 ball 51 runs. All-rounder Luke Jongwe fell seven runs short of his milestone on 43 runs from 68 deliveries while Allan Chigoma scored 41 runs from 85 balls to guide Tuskers to a big first innings total.
Off spin bowler Wessly Madhevere took three wickets for Eagles and gave away 77 runs in 23 overs while Matt Parkinson took two for 73 runs in 19.4 overs. Faraz Akram, Munashe Chipara, Alex Falao and Tapiwa Mufudza all took one wicket each for the log leaders.
Eagles’ response with the bat saw three players get half centuries. Nick Welch scored 59 runs, Madhevere had 51 and the skipper Akram remained undefeated on 54 runs at stumps. Hamidullah Qadri and Jongwe took two wickets each for Tuskers and the other one was taken by Mgcini Dube.
In the other match at Old Hararians between Southern Rocks and Rhinos, the latter ended day two batting on 71-4 in 22 overs trailing by 363 runs after their opponents made 434 all out in the first innings.
Rocks are in control of the match after their captain Richmond Mutumbami scored 137 runs and Alistair Frost made 88 runs to put their side on the front foot.
