Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) has unveiled plans to construct, own, operate, and maintain a 20MW gas-fired power plant in Manhize.
The project is set to enhance the company’s energy capacity, supporting its expanding operations.
In a public notice released on Thursday, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) confirmed it had received an application from Disco for the development of the power plant.
According to the notice, the electricity generated will be for the company’s internal consumption, with connectivity to the national grid through the existing Disco 88/33kV substation.
Disco commissioned a 50MW power plant in October 2024, bringing its total capacity to 70MW with the addition of the gas-fired facility.
The company currently consumes approximately 28MW, but energy demand is expected to rise as production increases.
The expansion aligns with the firm’s long-term energy strategy, ensuring sustainable operations while reinforcing industrial growth in the Midlands Province.
