A dip attendant in Mangwe district died after allegedly drinking poison in protest over his father’s refusal to handover his late brother’s property to him.Alfred Majaha, 63, of Madabe area drank a chemical for dipping livestock.

Madabe area councillor Nkosilathi Khahlu said passersby found Majaha lying unconscious outside his homestead after drinking the chemical.

“Some villagers passing by Majaha’s homestead saw him lying unconscious just outside his home and there were indications that he drank chemicals for dipping as he was found frothing .

“Next to him was a big tree and a rope tied to it which indicated that he probably wanted to hang himself but failed as he collapsed before reaching the tree,” said Clr Khahlu.

He said Majaha’s family discovered an empty bottle of dipping chemicals dumped in his bedroom, which indicated that he could have consumed the chemical.

Clr Khahlu said Majaha committed suicide following a dispute with his father over his late brother’s estate.
“Majaha’s brother passed away last year and he left behind property which is now under the control of his parents. He recently had a misunderstanding with his father over the property as he demanded to be given a share.

“His father declined to handover anything to him and this angered him and he swore that his father would enjoy the property once he was gone. On the following day he drank the dip chemical,” said Clr Khahlu.

Headman Mabhunu of Madabe area confirmed to have received the report of the incident which occurred last week on Friday. He said Khahlu passed away on Monday after succumbing to stomach pains sustained as a result of consuming the dip chemical.
