Disability expo on the cards

Government and civic organisations are set to host a disability expo aimed at raising awareness on disabilities and provide stakeholders with a platform to interact with them.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting held in Mutare last week, deputy director in the office of the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Mr Lucky Bhasopo, said the expo would buttress the need for social inclusion.

“As Manicaland, we are hosting this national event for the first time and we anticipate that this occasion will provide linkages between the disabled community and the rest of the populace,” he said.

“The event, which will be held from June 27 to 29, will run under the theme “Disability Inclusion for sustainable development #walk the talk leaving no one behind.”

Various stakeholders including Government ministries, corporates, civic society and NGOs are expected to take part in the event.

“This event will also demonstrate that disability does not mean inability through a showcase of talents and skills by people living with disabilities.

“This event will go a long way in challenging misconceptions about disability and the disabled. The expo will also empower people by providing them an opportunity to harness markets and contacts so that they can enhance their livelihoods.
