Div 2 clubs crumble

IT appears the current liquidity crunch is not sparing even the world’s most beautiful game!  Hardly a month after ZIFA Manicaland Division Two Soccer League outfit, AK 47 threw in the towel owing to financial constraints, another league outfit, ZRP have called it quits. The police force team only played five matches and failed to fulfil other matches, a situation again attributed to financial woes hitting most teams in the league.

The league secretary, Kundai Makwarise, confirmed the development, saying the ZRP team officials confirmed to him last Sunday that they were no longer able to fund the club.

“It is sad to announce that yet another team, ZRP, will no longer be with us. Signs that all was not well in the camp were visible. The league will commence without AK47 and ZRP,” he said.

Meanwhile, in matches played last weekend, Redwing Mine regained top spot after they drew 1 – 1 with stubborn Midway in an exciting match played in Penhalonga.
The miners now have 21 points, while Watermark who dismissed Chikobvore 3 – 0 are now third-placed with 19 points. Eastern Highlands edged Chiwere 1-0.

Eastern Highlands now have 10 points and are seated on position seven. The match between eight-placed Claremont and Nhedziwa who are on position six was not played for unclear reasons.

The Africa Trust who did not have a league fixture last weekend will next weekend travel to Watermark in a potential thriller, while the bottom-placed Sisal Stars will square off with Claremont.

This weekend’s fixtures:
Africa Trust v Watermark, Sisal Stars v Claremont, Nhedziwa v Redwing.
