Zifa Southern Region treasurer Tawanda Ruzive could not be drawn into revealing how many clubs had by yesterday paid but said that they have sent bank details to clubs.
He said they were sticking to what they agreed at their annual general meeting last month and urged clubs to pay their amounts in full as they were not allowing part-payment.
“No club will play without paying the affiliation fees in full. The clubs accepted the budget because they understood the cost related to running the league. We gave them enough time to raise the affiliation fees and they have the account numbers where they can deposit the money.
“We explained to the clubs at the annual general meeting how we came up with this season’s affiliation fees. There are issues to do with salaries and bills among other things that we considered,” he said.
Ruzive said the league needed about $3 000 to run the office every month.
“Like I said, if they fail to pay by today, then we will be left with no choice but to withdraw their franchises and see what to do with them,” said Ruzive.
He said from past experience they have discovered that usually the teams that failed to pay affiliation fees were the same teams that would struggle to fulfill matches and to pay referees.
“We can do with 10 clubs that would have fully paid their fees. We do not want to promote a club that will fail to travel for their fixtures when they are in the PSL,” Ruzive said
