HWANGE will be the focal point of this weekend’s Zifa Southern Region League with six matches taking place in the district on Saturday and Sunday.
The league’s big match will however be in Bulawayo where title contenders Bulawayo Chiefs and Bantu Rovers will clash at Luveve Stadium on Sunday.
On Saturday, Bulawayo City, the log leaders, take on bottom placed Mpumalanga in Hwange.
City are three points ahead of second placed Chiefs and a win for the municipal side would open up a six-point gap at least for 24 hours before the epic battle at Luveve.
Players set to drive City title charge in Hwange include the experienced Innocent Mapuranga, Welcome Ndiweni, Bruce Tshuma, Simba Sithole, goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda and hitman Mkhululi Moyo.
With City, Chiefs and Rovers now pulling away from the rest of the teams in the league, Zifa could soon be forced to reschedule their fixtures for the three teams to play at the same time to avoid giving any of them an unfair advantage.
Earlier this week, Zifa regional boss Musa Mandaza said any form of unsportsmanship would not be tolerated.
ZPC Hwange, who have suddenly lost the power to light up their campaign, are home to miners, Casmyn at Chakona Stadium in Ingagula while Tapera Ngwenya’s Makomo play host to Nust.
Technosphere, who had a fairytale run last year, welcome Ntabazinduna in a match that could go either way.
Brian Njobvu’s Hwange Under-20 will take a short drive to Victoria Falls to play Trumus at Chinotimba Stadium. Njobvu’s young squad needs to raise their game and believe in themselves.
The only match set for Bulawayo on Saturday will pit uniformed services sides Black Boots and the Bekithemba Ndlovu coached Indlovu Iyanyathela.
Fixtures:
Saturday: Makomo v Nust (Hwange), Mpumalanga v Bulawayo City (Hwange), Trumus v Hwange U20 (Vic Falls), ZPC Hwange v Casmyn (Hwange), Black Boots v Indlovu Iyanyathela (Fair Bridge), Technosphere v Ntabazinduna (Hwange).
