There will be entertainment galore from drum majorettes, the Salvation Army brass band, Budiriro Drama Group, Zimbabwe Prison Services Kadoma Medium Prison choirs and the Methodist Church Choir.
The executive chairman and founder of Zimbabwe Prison Ministries Africa, Bishop Noah Pashapa will present a brief history of ZPMA, which started providing pastoral care, humanitarian assistance and counseling services to inmates inside prisons and re-integration and re-socialisation support to ex-inmates in February 2009. Bishop Pashapa also said that this was the same year that ZPMA and the Zimbabwe Prison Services signed a partnership Memorandum of Understanding.
He added, “During the same month, the Zimbabwe Prison Ministries Africa Academy (ZPMAA) was also established in partnership with the Pan Africa Christian College and Living Waters Theological Seminary with the objective of training church pastors and other community based leaders in prison ministry skills that equip them to provide pastoral, counseling, humanitarian assistance, preaching and victim-offender reconciliation to inmates, ex-inmates and families affected by crime”.
To date, ZPMAA has trained and graduated, with an advanced certificate in prison ministries, 200 pastors and leaders located in about 15 different church denominations and 6 provinces in our country.
“We are currently training 260 pastors and leaders who should be graduating by end of 2013. Twenty-eight of these graduates have been ordained as civilian correctional chaplains by its sister organisation “the Africa Correctional Chaplains’ Association”, while 50 more graduates will be ordained as civilian correctional chaplains in November this year”, said Bishop Pashapa.
ZPMA’s volunteer service providers has to date cumulatively made 1 000 visits to provide pastoral care, humanitarian assistance and counseling to inmates in Zimbabwean prisons.
Bishop Pashapa said, “We have provided support for just released ex-inmates requiring bus-fares, clothing and take back home groceries to 50 ex-inmates; we have successfully supported 20 ex-inmates to re-settle back into society.”
He added, “The official launch of the ZPMA Kadoma chapter is a first as this is the first of local chapters to be certified as an established ZPMA chapter.
“Pastor Mrs Mujuru introduced our movement to the Kadoma church leadership fraternity in 2011 while she was a ZPMA trainee at Pan Africa Christian College.
“When Pastor Edwin and Mrs. Gumbura came on board during the same year and assumed responsibility of co-ordinating our training programme in Kadoma, the movement took off like a rocket”, said Bishop Pashapa.
He also said that the Kadoma Zimbabwe Prison Ministries chapter’s volunteer service providers has over the past year established themselves as effective and reliable correctional care service-providing partners to the Zimbabwe Prison Services in Kadoma.
Other chapters in Mufakose, Chitungwiza, Marondera, Kariba and Gwanda will be officially launched in due course.
Bishop Pashapa said, “We can only say to the Kadoma Chapter, ‘makorokoto, amhlope’ and congradulations as they are officially recognised and certified as an established chapter today.”
