AMBITIOUS Hwange-based Zifa Southern Region Division One outfit Technosphere Football Club are optimistic they will clinch this year’s championship and play in the nation’s elite league next year. The club, formed in 2011 and sponsored by Technosphere Energy Services, was promoted into the top league last year after they finished a remarkable fourth position on the log.

They had featured in the Matabeleland North Division Two league where they romped to the winners’ podium in 2012.
The club’s director Ozias Taruvinga is confident and made a strong statement that his team has everything it takes to play in the Premier League next year.

Said Taruvinga: “We played for the first time in Division One last year and we have learnt a thing or two as a club and we intend to use that as a learning curve to fight for a Premier League berth at the end of the campaign. The morale is high in the camp, I have trust in the technical team, the arsenal we have and also the resources at our disposal to end the season as the top team. I can repeat the vow, we want to bring a second team in the top league to Hwange and with the way things are we can easily achieve that feat.”

He said despite financial challenges they are facing, they were committed to delivering the title to Hwange.
Taruvinga challenged the newly elected Zifa leadership in the region led by Musa Mandaza to seriously work on securing sponsorship for the league which has gone unsponsored for two seasons.

“I would want to challenge the newly elected committee to seriously work on securing sponsorship so that the boys toil for something at the end of the year. I am reliably informed that the Northern Region has secured a sponsor for their league and we also want that to happen here so that we move from this case of playing football to simply entertain the community,” he added.

The team’s head coach Try Ncube, who has been at the helm of the technical bench since 2011, echoed Taruvinga’s statements. He said his squad was good enough and no player stood above the rest.

“The team is very impressive and more than prepared to chase for honours. All the players are competent but I can single out the likes of captain Herbert Sibanda, Clement Nkala, Polite Moyo, Fortune Nkomazana and Stanley Mpala,” he said.

The club went hunting during the off-season to bolster the squad which saw the likes of ZPC Hwange trio of Tryfortune Ncube, Manyando Zulu and Moses Chimusoro joining the club besides Bhekithemba Ngwenya who came from Tsholotsho Pirates.
