The MDC Alliance has been rocked by divisions after disputed primary elections to choose its representative for the Mhangura Constituency in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
The party supporters argue that the winner of the low key primary election that attracted about 150 voters, Mr Garikai Gurajena, was not from the constituency.
Mr Gurajena beat Mr David Zungura after polling 71 votes.
Sources also indicated that more than 100 voters failed to participate in the primary election.
“The election saw only 158 members participating while those without voter registration slips and/or updated memberships were barred from voting,” said one party member.
“Some who failed to vote during the primaries couldn’t get the opportunity to register during the ZEC blitz as they did not have the required documentation.”
Mr Gurajena is said to be based in Harare. Some of the supporters also indicated that they would vote for Zanu-PF candidate Cde Precious Masango who is based in the constituency.
“If the party refuses to look into the matter urgently, we are going to vote for the Zanu-PF candidate who stays in the constituency and not Mr Gurajena who is from Harare,” they said.
“Mr Gurajena is not even in the Lion’s Den district structures where he purports to be from.”
In an interview, Mr Zungura said that although no violence or vote buying were recorded, the election was not fair in the manner many eligible voters were barred from casting their vote.
