PLUMTREE-based DJ Dee-el-en has announced a short break from club gigs as she shifts her focus to private functions, daytime events and music production.
Born Dione Ndebele on 14 February 2004, the DJ said the break was for personal reasons, but stressed that she remained available for bookings at selected events.
“I’m currently on a short break from club gigs for personal reasons. I’m still fully available and taking bookings for private functions, school functions, weddings and similar gatherings. I will resume club bookings in early December 2026,” she said.
Away from the decks, Dee-el-en is exploring her interest in singing, particularly in Likompo, a music genre from Botswana that has captured her attention.
She has collaborated with several local artists and producers on unreleased tracks, with release dates expected to be announced by producer Jay Ixies.
“I have also recently taken a great interest in Likompo, a genre from Botswana that I have fallen in love with. I have collaborated with one of the best producers in Plumtree, Jay Ixies, as well as Ceeko, Neeco, one of the most talented artists I know, and Russpanda on a few unreleased Likompo tracks. Release dates will be announced soon by Jay Ixies,” she said.
The DJ, who won the Best Female Artist of the Year award at the 2025 Plumtree Arts Awards (PAA), said her versatility behind the decks had also influenced her approach to music-making.
“Being a DJ made me fall in love with every genre, so I can make different music with different vibes,” she said.
She has also ventured into hip-hop and trap, collaborating with Plumtree artists Eleh Vikar, ManQ TWT, Moremi, Ceeko and El Micco. The projects were recorded at Russpanda’s Studio, with Russpanda serving as producer.
Beyond music, Dee-el-en is pursuing several business interests, balancing her creative career with other professional commitments.
“I love being a busy girl, a female hustler. Currently, I work as an agent at Doves, a host at Golden Celebrations, I’m self-employed, and I run a small mobile business through which I sell clothes and household items,” she said.
Dee-el-en began DJing in 2022 and has since made her mark on Plumtree’s nightlife scene, breaking into an entertainment space that was previously dominated by men.
