DJ Fresh leaves fans asking for more

South African DJ Fresh’s much anticipated show lived up to its billing as the house guru kept the about 400 revellers on their feet the whole night.

DJ Fresh got on stage around 12 midnight amid wild cheers from fans and kicked off his set with his track Summer Days.

Thereafter he went on to play popular house tracks such as Seng’khathele by Euphonik, My Name Is by DJ Zinhle, Hlokoloza by Arthur Mafokate, Serious by Big Nuz and the new Vetkook vs Mahoota track, Stokvel.

DJ Fresh was on the ones and twos for five hours and also played old school house and kwaito and ended his show at about 5.30am yesterday.

He then took a 20-minute break to mingle with fans and take photos.

Bodyguards had a torrid time keeping people in check as they jostled to get a photo with their favourite DJ.

During his break DJ Emity Smooth took over the decks and switched from house to hip-hop and R‘n’B.

His 20 minutes showed why Emity Smooth is rated among the best DJs in the country.

Before DJ Fresh went on stage local DJs such as Mark Vusani and Chris among others warmed the crowd up for Big Dawg.

After his break DJ Fresh took over the decks and played hip-hop and R‘n’B mixes for the next 45 minutes before switching back to house.

After the show he was whisked away from the venue with fans mobbing him for pictures.

During the show an overzealous, slim, dreadlocked security detail in the VIP section was making a nuisance of himself.

He was sending people away from a table that was reportedly set aside for DJ Fresh that he was guarding.

What baffled revellers was DJ Fresh did not even use the table that he was vigorously guarding.

Fans who spoke to Chronicle Entertainment after the show said they had fun but wanted DJ Fresh to involve them more in his shows.

They said his presence on the microphone was lacking and to make people sing along to his songs.

Nothando Ndlovu from Gwabalanda said the show was great and DJ Fresh took her down memory lane with old school hits.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the show as it rocked. His selection of music both new and old school was fabulous. DJ Fresh should come again,” she said.

Another fan Derrick Nyoni concurred with Nothando and said it was a house experience to remember.

“As a house fan this was an experience to cherish. I enjoyed myself. The house tracks that he played were unbelievable,” said Nyoni.

Gerald Dube from Nketa said the show was good but the downside was that beer was expensive.
