UP-AND-COMING Bulawayo DJ and singer DJ Lavae’s star continues to shine as his hit song Kwantuthu has attracted the attention of a UK-based recording company, Peng Africa Records. Kwantuthu which features Mbo Mahocs has stayed on ZiFM’s Bulawayo Chart for more than 12 weeks. It has excelled from just being a blockbuster to a Bulawayo anthem.
Peng Africa Records is a division of Peng, co-owned by Mthulisi Patrick and Deepsoul House musician Andy Compton.
Peng Africa manager Patrick said he was impressed by the track thus it felt right to sign the up-and-coming artiste, real name Bukhosi Magabo. He added that Magabo’s extended play would be released sometime this year.
“I liked Kwantuthu when I first heard it. Because I am all about giving a platform to up-and-coming talent, I decided to sign Lavae up. I am presently working on compiling the track along with others from other artistes in Bulawayo and South Africa. We will be releasing the compilation later this year,” said Patrick.
Apart from Lavae, Peng Africa Records has also signed other local artistes that include Djembe Monks, Skaiva and Hoodtones.
The record deal is set to open the window to the international arena for the young artiste.
Magabo said he was humbled by the opportunity and hoped to make the best of it.
“Such opportunities do not come by always so I believe I am highly favoured to land such a deal. I am very grateful to Peng Africa for giving me this platform to shine. I am looking forward to utilising the opportunity to upgrade myself as an artiste and to push my music even to the international audience,” said Magabo.
