ONE of Harare’s top DJs, Jason Le Roux, will this weekend come to Bulawayo to grace the official re-opening of the newly refurbished Club Eden on Saturday night.
The electro-house DJ will first perform at Mosaics Night Club in Burnside tomorrow evening before playing at the Colourfest at Hillside Dams on Saturday afternoon.
Le Roux, who has played in Bulawayo before and has also shared the decks with South Africa’s DJs Fresh, Black Coffee and Goldfish, also boasts of international acclaim.
He has played alongside Yolanda B Cool – an Australian club swing house group, Hardwell (real name Robbert van de Corput) – a Dutch progressive house DJ and Groove Armada – an electronic music duo from London.
In an interview yesterday, the veteran DJ said his music philosophy was to bridge the gap between music genres – hence his decision to come up with mashup mixes.
A mashup is a song or composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another.
“On one of my mash up mixes, I used Tehn Diamond and Junior Brown’s track Happy and mixed it with Damien Marley and Skrillex’s Make it bun dem on vimeo to come up with a dub step track. This made the track internationally recognisable and locally relevant,” he said.
The ZiFM DJ urged local DJs to produce their own music in order to remain relevant in the music industry.
“If you are not producing your own music as a DJ, you are wasting your time. Every young boy and girl can now be a DJ with the advent of technology.
“No one looks at the art of beat matching anymore as music lovers want DJs to have their own music,” Le Roux said.
