Entering the game as a house disc jockey, Madeherbelieve would play Afro tech, deep house, electro, kwaito and the popular amapiano which he believes made him tick and was able to draw the crowd.

Having to face the pressure of being an academic and a DJ, 24 year-old Takudzwa Ashleigh Mfote popularly known as Madeherbelive surprised his fans with the amapiano collaboration between Tahle and himself titled ‘Unaware’.

“Many had heard me playing as a DJ and were curious to see what I could do with my song and so far the reviews are good,” he said.

“I am even getting requests from other producers who want to work with me, the likes of Teeman and Mr Six 21 from South Africa.”

The DJ and producer says he always wanted to enter the production scene and has been hesitant for the past three years but thanks to Matz Muziq who pushed and assisted him he was able to create a wonderful sound.

“I am planning to work on more songs and with more local artistes, especially underground artists who have exceptional talent”, he said.

He is currently working on Afro music and is very keen to work with fellow local producers.

Mfote is a third year Electronics and Telecommunications Technology student at the University of Zimbabwe who started getting recognition as a DJ in 2021. He said being a DJ has been affecting his studies as he has to go for lectures Monday till Friday at the same time go for gigs from Wednesday to Sunday.

He says when he started out in his first year it was very difficult tackling seven courses and working from 6pm till midnight to such an extent that he wanted to drop being a DJ.

“There were even days I regretted starting my degree and some days I hated being a DJ because of the payments I would receive.

“Most times I get into lectures half awake, however towards exams I always prioritize my education and make some time for myself since in my work there is hardly anytime for oneself or friends”, he said.

Although making waves at Fiestas, Untamed and many other gigs, the young DJ has neither won any award nor been nominated, however he plans on continuing to establish and maintain good relations with his elders in the game.

“In as much as the game changes it really does not change. The same skills that created the big dogs can help us to become as well.”

Having grown up in a Christian family, Madeherbelieve says his family is very supportive of his art.

“I play in night clubs and what happens there and the crowd my parents are not really fans of but, they trust me which is something I appreciate”, he says.

The DJ plans on having a tour around Zimbabwean Universities and this idea came up after he visited Chinhoyi University which had a great turn up.

He says the production of music alone is hard and for DJs such as Shimza, Black Coffee and Prince Kaybee to create music that stands out is something he looks up to.

DJ Madeherbelieve, believes that the only way Zimbabwean DJs can be on the market is if more are exposed and get involved with the global market.

“I would love to pursue my passion in Zimbabwe but that is once I create a unique vibe and a great relationship with the global market”, he says.
