Ekurhuleni where Kutloano Modise matriculated.
Modise, who passed matric in 2009, received a bursary from the Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation to further his studies.

The foundation teaches young people from disadvantaged schools the importance of education.
This foundation is meant to help young disadvantaged kids. We are here to motivate and inspire them that through hard work anything is possible, said DJ Sbu.

Modise, a University of Johannesburg logistics student, will graduate in March.
He was recruited by the foundation in 2010 after DJ Sbu and his colleagues visited the school to motivate pupils.

In 2009 when Sbu came to our school, he told us that anyone who passed with high marks will get a bursary. I wanted to be that one student, he said.

Katlehong High was Gauteng’s worst performing school in 2010, but improved its matric pass rate to 85 percent last year.

Principal Frances Ngwenya said: “My educators are fired up and they had promised to increase the pass rate. We are going for a 100 percent this year.” – Sowetan.
