DJ Stavo takes music to the people

“Sweet Love” which received heavy rotation on Channel O as well as in pubs and clubs in Zimbabwe.

Also part of the entourage will be DJ Ash Stylez, who has earned himself the respect of other club DJs and club owners around Harare.
This would be his first time to go on a whirlwind tour around the country since the release of the chart topping video.

His first port of call will be Victoria Falls on May 24 at Wild Thing then moves to Mutare, Marondera, Zvishavane before he heads to Harare.
For those not in the know, DJ Stavo aka the Kwekwe Hustler has been around for some time. He started out at the bottom in 1999 but enjoyed a steady rise up the music ladder. He has also featured South Africa’s seasoned kwaito star Mandoza of the “Nkalakata” fame on a video called “Mnandi” (So Good).

Of interest is how DJ Stavo, perhaps our own version of DJ Khaled of the “We the Best” fame, managed to appeal to a crossover audience with his excellent delivery.

The three-minute-long video was shot in Johannesburg a few weeks ago and has become an instant hit with fans across Africa and judging by its popularity on social platforms such as Facebook, DJ Stavo could be angling for a Channel O Music Award this year.

And on YouTube, the video made 1 000 hits within the first week of its release indicating that it was one of the most viewed local videos.
The excellent video includes a pool party and club scenes among other mouthwatering shots.
Mandoza is on a comeback trail since he won the Most Gifted Kwaito Award at last year’s Channel O Music Video Awards for his collaboration with Ees on “Ayoba”.

The kwaito star has set his sights on winning big this year especially now that he worked with DJ Stavo.
While he made waves with his collaboration with Mandoza, locally DJ Stavo merged forces with ExQ for the past three years which has seen them releasing tracks together, namely “Sweet Love”, “Celebrate”, “Feel So Free”, “I Am Not a Fool” and “Take Me”.

After the Victoria Falls trip, DJ Stavo heads to Cape Town, South Africa, for a one-off show. While in South Africa the 34-year-old wheel-spinner will also shoot the video for “Sweet Love” (remix) that features Ex Q, Roki and Botswana rappers Zeus and Cybil Nyte. The track is dominating the charts and is getting good airplay in Botswana.

It remains to be seen whether or not DJ Stavo will bag any awards this year for his video “Mnandi” (So Good) but one thing that is certain is that he has taken Zimbabwean music across the borders. His other collaboration with Roki and ExQ on the song “Sweet Love” has earned him the respect of hip-hop lovers.
