BULAWAYO tribal House quartet Djembe Monks and Antivirus Dance Crew will tonight be part of a 21st February Movement fund-raising dinner at Rainbow Hotel. This will be part of fund-raising for a celebration gala that will be held at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera in honour of President Mugabe who turns 90 tomorrow.
The gala will be held on Sunday where Bulawayo artistes, among them Sandra Ndebele, will perform.
Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial youth chairman Khumbulani Mpofu yesterday said there were 30 tables up for grabs at the event.
“Djembe Monks and Antivirus will be there as part of the entertainment during the fund-raising event. We have received a positive response and the proceeds will be channelled to the national celebrations set for the weekend,” said Mpofu.
He said the fund-raising event was a way of expressing the youths’ gratitude to President Mugabe for his sterling leadership and dedication to the emancipation of young people.
“I urge all youths on Friday wherever they are to celebrate the day with friends and family. President Mugabe is an icon to the youths in Zimbabwe and Africa and it is befitting for us to celebrate with him,” said Mpofu.
He said tomorrow he would be leaving for Harare to meet other cadres in preparation for the gala on Sunday.
“The rest of the team will leave Bulawayo on Saturday so that we meet in Marondera on Sunday for the day where we would gather to celebrate with the President,” said Mpofu.
The 21st February Movement is the brainchild of Zanu-PF youths but encompasses all Zimbabwean youths regardless of their political affiliation.
President Mugabe was born on 21 February 1924 at Kutama Mission in Zvimba, Mashonaland West province.
