DJs clash at Nice Day Sports Bar

Entertainment Reporter
Local turntable artistes DJ Slasher, DJ Breeze and DJ Stugah will lead a host of upcoming disc jockeys at a DJs clash to be held at Nice Day Sports Bar in Southlea Park tomorrow.

The clash is one of the various entertainment events that have been held at the Harare South venue that is also regarded as the home of upcoming artistes.

The venue has hosted artistes of various genres and brought life to the new settlement through outdoor entertainment. The fact that the place is tucked in a new settlement makes it an ideal drive-out hideout for people that want to relax and have fun far from the “madding crowd”.

The DJs will take to the turntables in the afternoon and spin the wheels until late in the night.

DJ Slasher, who doubles as Nice Day entertainment and marketing manager, said the event was meant to expose talent among young wheel spinners, especially from Harare South.

“We have been crafting programmes for artistes from this area with an aim of unearthing talent. This is a new settlement far from popular entertainment centres in Harare and Nice Day strives to bring the artistes and arts lovers from this area together,” he said.

“However, because this is a hideout, there has been a serious influx of upmarket merrymakers from the other side of Harare.

“People enjoy driving to this place on the outskirts of the capital and having fun away from the fast city life. It is fast growing as a hideout and we have ensured that we have programmes that cut across class structures to cater for everyone.”

While the place has been home for upcoming sungura groups from the area for some time, it has moved to hosting jazz, mbira and reggae sessions.

Last week Afro-fusion group Gwarimba serenaded fans with soothing rhythms that brought a spectacular feel to the venue.

Gwarimba is famed for outstanding performance at international competition Music Crossroads and touring Europe where they left lasting impressions.

Their performance brought a different atmosphere to Nice Day and tomorrow’s DJs class should present a mixed bag of music.

DJ Slasher said the disc jockeys on the programme specialise in different genres, which will ensure varied selections throughout the event.
