EIGHT local DJs are set to compete in the ongoing Hustlers’ Road to Fame competition on Friday night.
In a move meant to surprise fans, the DJs will only be announced at the gig.
The famous show is meant to give Bulawayo’s up-and-coming artistes a chance to showcase their talent and a taste of the high demands of the entertainment industry.
The competition kicked off at the beginning of this month and has seen top Zimbabwean artistes such as Sniper Storm, General Python and DJ Mockery featuring as guest artistes.
In an interview, Hustlers’ entertainment manager, Simon Gama said this year’s contest had received a positive response from local artistes that had shown a keen interest in taking part in the competition.
“We have had tight competition from day one and we are now entering a different stage. This year’s competition has been different from past years,” he said.
Gama said Friday’s competition would be lively and fans should come in their numbers and support local up-and-coming artistes.
“This is a show meant to encourage and inspire local talent. We give them a chance to be heard and to mingle with established artistes. These guys need to be supported so that they feel motivated and appreciated,” he said.
Gama said established DJ Lazy Tee would be there to provide support to the up-and-coming artistes.
“Lazy Tee will teach them a thing or two since we want them to benefit from experienced DJs such as him. They will be given a platform to show their turntable skills and will be assisted whenever possible,” he said.
The month-long show has been running since the beginning of the month with shows every Friday and Saturday.
The competition has been divided according to genres with DJs, dancers and musicians given their own days to compete.
Already, aspiring urban grooves artistes and dance groups have had their chance as they have performed in the first two weeks of the competition.
The finals for the genres will be held on a date yet to be announced.
The competition has over the years brought out the city’s hidden talent in artistes such as General Python, POY and Centre Party.
