ALMOST six out of ten dads in Zimbabwe are getting a reality check! Global DNA Zimbabwe has revealed that a staggering 59 percent of paternity tests done in 2024 came back negative.
The revelations have left many families in shock, heartbreak, and in some cases, relief. Nigel Bothwell of Global DNA says clients request tests for everything from child support disputes to inheritance battles, and most importantly, for peace of mind.
“Some people are convinced about the results, but for others, the truth hits like a lightning bolt,” said Bothwell. “These tests aren’t just numbers. They affect trust, identity, and family dignity.”
While less common, maternal tests are just as crucial, often clearing up hospital mix-ups, adoption reunions, or immigration cases. Bothwell says each case carries deep emotional weight, showing that DNA testing isn’t just science—it’s real lives and real relationships.
In short, assumptions can be dangerous. The lab results don’t lie, and for many, the truth has a sting.
