IT will be a do or die encounter for Mutare’s topflight Northern Rugby League outfit, Mutare Sports Club when they face Police Defenders tomorrow (Saturday) in Harare.
The Mutare side is currently sitting at the bottom of the log. With two away games in-hand left against Police Defenders and Harare Sports Club, the Mutare Shumbas are eyeing for nothing short of a victory against Police Defenders and a ‘miraculous’ win against HSC.
MSC have eight points and are at par with Police Defenders, only trailing by aggregate points, which means next week’s match will determine who will come out the league bottom bencher as the 2015 season wraps up. MSC coach, Mackenzie Munetsi, said they were prepared for the high stakes game.
“We are more than prepared for the high stakes match and just hope we will go with all our players and not have last minute drop-outs.
“We can beat Police Defenders and the team is fired up to perform its best,” said Munetsi.
Meanwhile, the defending champions, Old Hararians were toppled again and are now trailing behind Harare Sports Club by aggregate both at 28 points following Sportivo’s 70-7 win against Police Defenders.
Old Georgians are on third position with 24 points followed by debutants Old Johanians with 16-points, Police Defenders and MSC respectively.
OGS are still in the run for a spot in the finals with an easy match at hand tomorrow against OJS.
OGS last won the top-flight league in 2012 and in 2013 narrowly went down to defending champions, Old Hararians in the finals.
