STAND-UP comedian, Doc Vikela, has decided to tackle climate change and public health using his talent.

Born Victor Mpofu, the comedian believes comedy should be used to address issues of national interest.

“I will launch my stand-up comedy show on 2 February at Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre under Simuka Comedy.

“This year, I am going to be doing projects on climate change, public health and touring around the country.

“I last did a comedy tour in 2017 because my fans in every corner of Zimbabwe deserve to laugh.”

He added:

“It’s a matter of time before stand-up comedy is appreciated locally as is the case in other countries.

“This genre is not synonymous with big crowds like music but we will want to keep pushing it so that people get to understand it.

“The difference between stand-up comedians and online comedians is that with stand-up comedy you get instant feedback.

“You practice and rehearse so that people can laugh.

“There is more work in stand-up comedy where you write your script.

“It’s hard and demanding, there is no time for a retake as you deal with a live audience.”

Doc Vikela said he was not competing with anyone.

“The year 2023 was a beautiful year for me. It’s a year that I saw the hand of the Lord.

“I witnessed man’s blessings.

“God visited my home and touched my heart,” he said.
