Doctor donates US$85 000 equipment to army

He was speaking while receiving a donation of imaging equipment for neck, head, ear and nose surgeons worth US$85 000 from a retired army doctor.
Professor Tarisai Dandajena, is now a lecturer at Oklahoma University in the United States.
Lt Gen Sibanda said many retired servicemen had become influential members of society in and outside Zimbabwe and had access to useful equipment that could help revitalise the army’s health institutions.
“Our retired servicemen and women we know are successful in their various fields out there, we urge them to remember where they came from as the army is battling to revive its health institutions.
“I wish all Zimbabweans living in the Diaspora would have the same spirit as Professor Dandajena of remembering where he came from.”
He said it was difficult for a successful person to travel from as far as the US to make such a donation.
“The army is facing many challenges that needs well wishers to be accomplished.
“It is sustained by the Government and alone it can not deal with these many challenges,” he said.
Lt Gen Sibanda reminded individuals and the corporate world of the army’s need for more donations for its five charity organisations.
Prof Dandajena, who was accompanied by his wife, said he was happy to donate to the army, which moulded his career.
“I see the ZNA as my parents who looked after me as I was growing and maturing in my career thus I find it very important to plough back to where I came from.”
He urged his fellow retired army professionals to put resources together and assist in improving hospitals, serving members’ welfare and their families.
