DOMINION HEIGHTS COLLEGE REWARD PARENTS

Dominion Heights College on Friday turned their Prize Giving Day into a celebration of parents and guardians who are fully supporting their children.

A number of parents went away with gifts for the smart way their children dress and for promoting good behaviour and paying fees on time.

School principal, Definite Tsiga, commended parents for complimenting the teachers’ efforts by providing necessary tools on time and also providing morale support.

“Our school is gaining more points through parents who fully support their children timeously for best results,” said Tsiga.

“Our pass rate is speaking volumes due to parents who made sure their children get adequate tools in each subject.

“Their sound communication with teachers has made us big considering that our school started in 2018. For the record, we have former students who made it in life who are with us today to support the event.

“Dominion Heights College has produced a journalist attached to a leading local media organisation and an engineer based in Bindura, among others.

“For all these good results, teachers and parents are working hand in hand.

“We have some guardians and parents who are communicating with relevant teachers in making sure they fight drug and substance abuse.

“As a school, we take pride in our students’ best results as well as hail our parents for fully supporting them. Tsiga commended some parents for sparing their time to come and train the students in various sporting disciplines like netball, volleyball, athletics, among others, where they scooped gold and silver medals.

District School Inspector, Favour Muyambo, urged parents and guardians to continue supporting students saying the Second Republic has come up with a curriculum that leaves no one behind.

“Allow me to thank Dominion Heights College for nearly giving all students some prizes,” said Muyambo.

“The school is working in line with the new curriculum under the Second Republic where every student is taken on board.

“Some students received prizes for smartness, dancing, music, poems, discipline, academics and sporting activities.

“This shows a total participation by all students and the prizes were extended to parents as well.

“Education is power, education is success and let us all join hands in supporting our children and fighting drug and substance abuse,” said Muyambo.

The school, which has seven teachers and four non-teaching staff, has been at the forefront in Tynwald in fighting against early marriage and also employing teachers from their neighbourhood.

From The Principal’s Desk

The Dominion Heights College is an institution with a rich history, spanning over six years.

It opened its doors in January 2018 with a vision to be an outstanding value-based school at the heart of our culturally-diverse community, striving for excellence, enabling our children to achieve their highest potential in all areas of the curriculum.

Over the years, we have grown from a small student body of two students in 2018 to a thriving community of 74 students, seven teaching and four non-teaching staff members.

I am proud to announce to you that of the 74 students, 60% of them are girls.

It is here at the Dominion Heights College that the unique potential and strengths that girls bring to our world are recognised.

Despite the progress around the world, girls continue to file banners that prevent them from receiving the education they deserve but here we have the power to change the narrative.

To my girls I say your voice matters, your dreams are valid and your future is bright and to my boys I say support your sisters.

Curriculum

The school offers a wide range of subjects under the new heritage-based curriculum. I am honoured to talk about the diverse range of subjects offered at this college and their significance in shaping the future of our students.

Our curriculum encompasses languages – English language and indigenous languages, Sciences – mathematics, biology, chemistry and combined science, Humanities – history, family and religious studies and heritage, Practical’s – agriculture and computer studies, Commercials – commerce, principles of accounting, business enterprise and economics. These subjects are essential, especially for careers
