THE Cameroonian quartet, who were issued with Zimbabwean passports before being intercepted at Beitbridge Border post two weeks ago, are crying foul and have accused the State of splitting their charges causing them to suffer double jeopardy
The quartet say upon arrest in Beitbridge, they were charged with violating the Immigration Act and a deportation order was issued. They claim that at the time of their second arrest, their case had already been dealt with and they had already been tried convicted and sentenced.
Their lawyer Tinashe Mbala is set to file a full written application on the matter and magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa is expected to hand down her ruling on October 16.
Duma Ebako Christiana Boyombe 39, Yvette Kum Nnam 24, Marvel Ngei Tegha 28 and Emile Muya Muya, 23, have been in custody for two weeks.
The court heard that the quartet is based in Cameroon and, between July and this September, the four connived with one Tafadzwa Chiundiza, who is a Zimbabwean, to assist them in bribing employees from the Registrar General’s Office.
Chiundiza has since appeared in court.
They sent Chiundiza US$3 200.
The documents were bearing Zimbabwean names — Chistiana Mhereyenyoka, Marvel Chimbwanda, Yvette Maini and Emile Chingwaru.
Tambudzai Masamvi appeared for the State.
